Irish Soda Bread

Traditional Recipe From The Emerald Isle Ingredients 4 cups AP flour 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup butter 3 tablespoons caraway seeds 2 cups raisins 1 1/4 cups buttermilk 2 beaten egg WHITES only 2 tablespoons whole milk Directions Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda. Cut in butter until mixture is a coarse meal Stir in caraway seeds and raisins Combine buttermilk and egg WHITES Stir into flour mixture Turn out on floured surface Knead lightly until a smooth dough ball forms Place in 8 inch round loaf pan Cut 6 inch cross 1/4 inch deep on top Brush with 2 tablespoons of whole milk Bake in 375 degree preheated oven for 60 minutes or until golden brown Prep Time: 20 Min Cook Time: 1 Hr Total Time: 1 Hr 20 Min Servings: 8
